Commissioning Day

Hall sends off its 2015/16 leavers at St Andrews Church  |  29th Jun 2016

The annual Commissioning Day Service was held at St Andrews Church and was a celebration of our student body and their time at Wycliffe; a time to acknowledge and celebrate the diversity of the community, to pray for and send out our leavers and to thank God for His many blessings on our students and families.

The sermon was given by Bishop Mike Hill, the outgoing Chair of Hall Council. He preached eloquently and vibrantly on the need to preach boldly the Gospel in today's reticent world. Among the groups commissioned were ordinand students, CTS students who have completed the additional apologetics provision and independent students who have completed graduate study at the University.

The Frederick Buechner Preaching Prize 2016 was awarded to Gareth Black, with runners up Erin Crider and Matthew Taylor. This was confirmation of Bishop Mike's exhortation on the importance and value of good preaching!

It was a moving service, with a timely reminder that we are all part of the body of Christ. This was followed by a BBQ back at the Hall and it was a joyous occasion that not even the typical June showers could dampen. The smaller members (and not so smaller members) of the Wycliffe community greatly enjoyed the presence of the ice cream van and bouncy castle. One especially poignant touch was the table decorations of photos of leavers depicting their time at Wycliffe in Oxford and on missions.
